About this place
The first dish to catch the eye is 千ざ以焼, named after the restaurant. Meat is wrapped in a thin layer of batter also used for okonomiyaki, then served with mustard mayonnaise and okonomiyaki sauce. Those who prefer to avoid mayonnaise can opt for spring onion ponzu instead. The listed price is 1,200 yen. Having a choice of sauce makes it easier to order this signature dish to suit your taste.
For something lighter, try issen-yoshoku: a thinly cooked batter topped generously with spring onion. The listed price is 400 yen. The menu notes that, alongside the standard Worcestershire sauce, the spicy sauce is also recommended. If you fancy both okonomiyaki and yakisoba, modern-yaki combines them, with noodles laid over a thin okonomiyaki base and sandwiched with a fried egg. The menu also lists okonomiyaki and yakisoba with a choice of toppings, as well as mixed versions.
Pair the teppan dishes with bottled beer, sake or shochu highballs in shikuwasa, lemon or lime flavours. Chizai is open for dinner from 18 to 22 and is closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Reservations are available.
